EIDD The New International School in Differdange: An Update

EIDD_headerThe new International school in Luxembourg will be welcoming it’s first students from later this month. The state-run school, which has a French and an English section, will run a similar programme to the European School offering education from primary level to European Baccalaureate. They will initially start with the first year of Primary for the French section and the first year of Secondary (Lycee) for both sections. The English primary section will now be open to all years 1-5.

Although the Ecole Internationale de Differdange (EIDD) will initially be in two buildings, a purpose built primary and secondary campus should be completed by 2020. This visionary project for Luxembourg has been in the making for more than 2 years. The Director of the project Gérard Zens (who was recently interviewed in The Wort) has led all the information meetings which included a chance for new pupils to meet teachers and fellow students back in June.

The new school and prospective campus has been seen as a real commitment by the government to the ever-growing International community of Luxembourg. Although criticized for not being located more centrally it has been purposely proposed as fulfilling a need to the local community of Differdange and also the future of the International community. New families entering the country will hopefully be encouraged to live closer to the school and in an area which is rapidly growing to be a new residential centre for Luxembourg. There are plans to develop the area around the school including housing projects and a new shopping centre opening next year. At present there are two University campuses nearby and the recently redeveloped commercial centre in Belval.

The new school opens on Monday 12th September. There are still places available in the English primary sections years 2-5. If you would like your child to be considered for the school please contact info@EIDD.lu
